Digital Fare Transformation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Movinton, developed by Robopine Technologies, has successfully enabled the digital transformation of public transportation payments across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The deployment spans four major cities and connects a fragmented transport ecosystem into a unified digital fare collection platform, supporting more efficient operations and improved passenger experiences.
The system currently operates across more than 200 vehicles equipped with Movinton validators, enabling secure and reliable fare validation throughout the network. In addition to onboard devices, the platform includes a passenger mobile application that allows riders to pay using QR codes and NFC-based contactless payments, providing a fully digital payment experience. This flexible payment infrastructure supports the transition away from traditional cash-based fare collection, which previously dominated the public transport system.
The platform serves over 20 independent transport operator companies, creating a unified digital infrastructure while allowing each operator to maintain its own operational structure. Through centralized fare collection and transaction management, operators now benefit from transparent revenue monitoring, automated accounting processes, and detailed operational reporting. The transition from cash to digital payments has significantly improved revenue security while reducing manual workload and operational inefficiencies.
In several routes across the network, cash payments have been completely eliminated, marking a major milestone in the modernization of the region's public transportation system. Operators now rely on real-time transaction data and comprehensive analytics dashboards to evaluate route performance, monitor ridership patterns, and optimize service planning. These insights have enabled transport companies to improve operational efficiency and increase revenue predictability.
From a public sector perspective, the digitalization of fare payments has created a reliable city-wide data ecosystem. Authorities now benefit from transparent data flows across the transportation network, supporting better oversight, planning, and long-term mobility development strategies. By replacing a fully cash-based system with a modern digital fare infrastructure, Movinton has helped establish a more efficient, accountable, and technologically advanced public transportation environment in Northern Cyprus.
